Badola, who joined the Indian Coast Guard in 1990, has over 30 years of service. He specialises in navigation and route and is an alumnus of US Naval Employees School, Newport, US.
Hailing from Uttarakhand, Badola is a recipient of Tatrakshak Medal from the President of India for his meritorious service. He has additionally obtained director common Indian Coast Guard commendation twice and commander- in-chief Andaman & Nicobar commendation.
He was principal director (administration) at Coast Guard headquarters, commanding officer of Coast Guard Station Delhi, chief workers officer (operations) at headquarters, Coast Guard Area (east) and regional operations and plans officer at area (west and A & N) the place he gave an impetus to excessive stage of operational effectiveness and consolidation of the executive framework.
